Fruit flies
Fruit flies
If you're like most people, you probably don't think twice about the fruit fly that occasionally buzzes around your kitchen. However, these small insects can pose a major problem for businesses that sell fresh produce.
Fruit flies are attracted to the sweetness of ripe fruit, and they lay their eggs in the soft flesh. When the eggs hatch, the larvae begin feeding on the fruit, causing it to spoil. Companies that sell fresh fruit and vegetables can therefore lose a lot of money due to fruit fly infestations.
There are a number of ways to catch fruit flies, including traps and sprays. But the best way to keep them away is to ensure that all fruits and vegetables are properly stored and kept clean. By taking these precautions, companies can protect their sales from these pesky insects .
Catching fruit flies
There are a few simple things you can do to catch fruit flies. First place a bowl of vinegar or wine. The fruit flies will be attracted to the smell and fly into the bowl where they will drown.
You can also place a piece of fruit or other food that attracts fruit flies. Once the flies are in your home, they are attracted to the food and will land on it. You can then easily catch them by hand or with a cup or bowl. Finally, you can make a trap from a jar or bottle.
Cut a piece of paper or cardboard into a cone shape and tape it to the opening of the jar or bottle. The fruit flies fly into the trap, but cannot get out. With a little patience, you should be able to catch all the fruit flies in your house.
What to do about fruit flies?
If you are dealing with a fruit fly infestation, there are a few things you can do to get rid of them. First, try to find out where they come from. If you have ripe fruits or vegetables lying around, that's probably what attracts them. Discard any spoiled food and wash all dishes and surfaces where food has been left.
You can also try setting a trap: put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Poke a few holes in the foil so the flies can get in, but they can't escape. Leave the trap outside overnight and see how many flies you have caught in the morning. If all else fails, you can always call an exterminator.
